XP Bonus and Orb Guide
Explains how XP bonuses and XP orbs stack additively rather than multiplicatively, tested on Chumsum at character level 96 with concrete XP numbers for various bonus combinations. Gives the formula Final xp = Base xp x (1 + Total bonus%/100) and a tip on prioritizing XP per time over XP per kill when farming.
Kathana Online: XP bonus and orb guide
Ever wondered how xp bonuses and xp orbs actually work together?
I tested different xp bonus combinations on Chumsum using a level 96 character. Here are the results.
Xp gained per kill
| Mob | Chumsum |
|---|---|
| Base xp | 22,500 |
| Xp bonus | Xp gained per kill |
|---|---|
| No bonus (0%) | 22,500 |
| 50% bonus | 33,750 |
| 80% bonus | 40,500 |
| 90% bonus | 42,750 |
| 100% bonus | 45,000 |
| 200% xp orb only | 67,500 |
| 100% bonus + 200% orb | 90,000 |
How xp stacking works
Based on these tests, xp bonuses stack additively rather than multiplicatively.
For example, if you already have a 100% xp bonus from equipment and buffs, activating a 200% xp orb gives you a total bonus of 300%.
22,500 × (1 + 3.00) = 90,000 xp
Some players might expect 135,000 xp, but the orb doesn't multiply your already-boosted xp.
Instead, all bonuses are added together and applied to the mob's base xp.
Is the xp orb worth using?
Definitely, especially if you're actively grinding.
With an existing 100% xp bonus:
| Orb status | Xp per kill |
|---|---|
| Without orb | 45,000 xp per kill |
| With 200% orb | 90,000 xp per kill |
That's twice your current xp gain.
The orb contributes an additional 45,000 xp per Chumsum kill.
A quick farming tip
Don't focus entirely on xp per kill. What matters more is how much xp you're earning over time.
Killing weaker mobs quickly can sometimes be more efficient than spending too much time killing stronger ones.
Prepare your buffs, inventory, and farming spot before activating your orb.
Xp calculation formula
Final xp = Base xp × (1 + Total bonus% / 100)
Conclusion
From the results, xp bonuses appear to stack additively. Equipment bonuses and xp orbs work together, but they don't multiply each other.
These findings are based on testing Chumsum at character level 96. Other mobs, levels, and higher bonus combinations still need verification.
Feel free to share your own findings or test results. Happy grinding!
